Seaford Town ended 2024 on a winning note after they beat Storrington 4-0 at The Crouch in SCFL Division One.
A brace each for Callum Connor and Ryan Knight sent Town on their way, as Paul Wise's side claimed another important win in the Division One promotion race.
Seaford took the lead with less than a minute on the clock, with Connor getting on the scoresheet in his return to the starting line-up. Good work from Howard Squires to win the ball back in the Storrington half gave the midfielder space to drive forward. Squires found the run of Connor to his left, who opened up his body inside the box to slot past Gary Elliott and give Seaford an early advantage.
The Swans had Elliott to thank just after the ten minute mark, with Marcus Richmond’s low effort forcing a strong low save from the Storrington ‘keeper. Richmond, having scored six in his last six appearances, had several chances to double the hosts lead through the first half.
The directness of Declan Partridge in behind caused Seaford the most problems throughout the half, however the Swans attack was largely kept at bay by a stubborn Seaford backline.
Storrington’s best chance of the first half came on the stroke of 45 minutes. Archie Thorpe saw a low effort batted away by Seaford ‘keeper Wester Young, after the winger found space on the right side of the penalty area. Despite a flurry of shots on the rebound, the hosts stood firm to preserve their lead at the interval.
HT: Seaford Town 1-0 Storrington
Signs of life from the away side before the break were soon put to bed after the restart, with Seaford’s attacking threat proving too dangerous for the Swans to handle as the second half went on.
Connor initially came close to a second in the 52nd minute; the striker ran at the visiting backline before setting up a left footed strike, but Elliott got down well to deny the strike.
However, the striker did manage to double his tally for the evening six minutes later. Linking up with second half substitute Hayden Beaconsfield, Connor was played through inside the box as he cut in from the left, before his deflected effort found the bottom left corner.
Seaford added a third goal five minutes later courtesy of centre back Knight. Max Vardy’s in-swinging delivery from a corner invited the leap of Knight, who headed home from close range to make it 3-0 in the 63rd minute.
Following a lull 25 minute period in terms of goalmouth action at both ends, Storrington once again fell victim to a set piece as Knight made it 4-0 with two minutes of normal time remaining. In spitting image of Seaford’s third, Vardy’s corner delivery from the right was glanced home inside the six yard box by Knight to round off the scoring.
