Seaford Town advanced to the second round of the Peter Bentley Challenge Cup after beating Forest Row 3-0 at The Crouch. First half goals from Marcus Richmond and Toby Potter-Drake, and a third from second half substitute Josh Wright with time running out, were enough to see Paul Wise's side past the SCFL Division One league leaders.
After a fairly uneventful opening quarter of an hour, Seaford took the lead in the 19th minute, with Marcus Richmond opening his account for the season with a header from point blank range. Good work from Seaford down the right led to Hayden Beaconsfield receiving the ball just shy of the Forest Row touchline, before floating a ball across the six-yard box for Richmond to power home.
Town doubled their advantage in the 37th minute with another header, this time courtesy of centre-half Toby Potter-Drake. After an initial dangerous corner delivery from Ollie Stevenson needed turning over the bar by 'keeper Kieran Newman, the subsequent corner found its target, with an unmarked Potter-Drake nodding home from the centre of the box.
Forest Row had several spells in possession throughout the first half in spite of Seaford's lead, and produced their two best chances of the opening period in the minutes following the hosts' second goal. First, Harvey Burgess was denied by an excellent near post save from Wester Young, getting a strong effort on target after being found in behind the Seaford back line. From the next move, striker Ben Bacon couldn't keep a first-time shot down after Frow found joy down their left flank.
The Reds enjoyed the better of the chances in the minutes after the restart; Beaconsfield stabbed an effort just past the post after good work from Ollie Duncan to win the ball back inside opposition half. Josh Wright had a chance to make it three off the bench in the 68th minute, seeing a half-volley from just inside the area saved after stealing the ball ahead of the last Forest Row defender.
After a tentative last passage in which Seaford withstood Forest Row's efforts to keep themselves in the competition, a long clearance was latched onto by Wright, who fended off the retreating away backline before slotting home via the foot of the post to round off the scoring.
